Apr. 11th, 2011 06:26 pmIt seems Suzy Techno-whore here will need a computer sooner rather than later. I'm debating whether to build or buy. Any opinions? I helped out building a few machines but that was some 10 to 15 years ago. I think as long as no soldering is involved I can do it. I know the specs* I want and I want to keep it around $1000 ($1200 is my absolute limit). I get the funny feeling that I can't get anywhere near what I want for the price I want to pay.
Bah.
Or maybe I should bypass the whole meghilla and get another jumbo laptop (my current "desktop" computer is a 17" Toshiba laptop). It would save on space, which I always need more of, but I don't know that I could get the same capacity and power I want if I do.
Opinions?
Desktop or Laptop?
Buy or build?
*Specs I would like
HD - 1T<, 7200RPM SATA
RAM 4-6 G upgradable to 8
Clock rate of at least 2 (preferably closer to 3) Ghtz
Intel Core i7 or i5 (Quad Core)
I plan on running Windows 7 Pro
Discrete graphics card
Integrated audio card
Blue ray or DVD burner
4-6 USB port (3.0 is preferred, 2.0 is acceptable)
2 hdmi ports
wireless card (802.11n)
