The people upstairs have 2 kids and a big dog. I am cutting them some slack on the noise because they just moved in and I'm sure they are getting themselves settled.

However....

If this noise; thumping, whining, yelling and general hoopla; continues I will make no guarantees that complaints will not follow.

To be honest, as a person with two kids under 10, there is always going to be tons of banging, crying, and general hoopla. There is really nothing even perfect parents can do to stop it, and trying to stop it will only cause more of it. I would consider talking to the manager about one of you switching units if you need quiet.

I expected some noise but this is more noise than a couple of kids and a dog. I mean raised adult voices, big thumps, the dog howling at midnight, etc.

I'm going to give it a 2 or 3 weeks and if it doesn't settle down, I'll probably knock on the door with a plate of cookies, a smile and a message. There are a lot of students here so they have strict policy about noise here. 3 complaints and you get 30 days to move out. I'd rather not start the 3-2-1 clock for them unless they keep this up.

Even the kids who do live here are generally pretty well behaved and don't make a lot of kid level noise unless they are at the pool, the dog park or the playground. These kids were whooping it up in the hallways, stairs and under other peoples' windows.

Like I said, hopefully in a few weeks they will be settled in and things will be calmer.
