If you're over 25 and are still holding on to how shitty you parent(s) were to you when you were a kid, you need to get over it and grow up. No parent is perfect, every parent will do something that might have their child(ren) laying on a head shrinker's couch, maybe even a few things, maybe even a few terrible things. That's life, and life promises nothing except death.
A few parents are monsters, however most parents do the very best they can and cross their fingers.
It's not what was done to you, it's what you choose to do with it. The majority of child abusers were themselves abused as children. However, the majority of abused children *do not* grow up to be child abusers.
Shit happens; people are born, people die, days tick by 1440 minutes at a shot. It's not the shit that is good or bad, it's what we choose to do with that shit that matters; that is the good and bad of it.
To answer the question: Of course. It made me the best of who I am; it made me the worst of who I am.
