cinema_babe: (movie reel)

The original Thomas Crown Affair with Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway is on Turner Movie Classics at 6:15. I know what I'll be watching. This is one of the few movies (if not the only one) where I enjoy the remake just about as much as the original.

I think the the leads in both films made these roles their own but I've got to give the slight edge to McQueen. Who knew that chess could be so very stimulating and romantic?

I think I'll go make myself something civilized to have along with the movie.

I saw the original while I was in high school, and Misha owned the DVD of the new one when we first started going out. I hadn’t seen the remake, and she hadn’t seen the original, so we rented the old one and had a Saturday double feature.

I didn’t really enjoy the remake. First of all, the chess scene from the original was super hot! Also, the type of crime and the ending were drastically changed in the new version. Also, I have major love for the splitscreen scenes--the new version kinda has one, but not really (there’s a scene in the security office with a bunch of monitors showing the theft from different angles, but way representational for me).
