I'm trying to remember the name of a book I remember reading back in the 70s or 80s about a post WWIII America where "we" had lost to "them" A new teacher comes into a classroom and her job is to indoctrinate the children into their new way of life. There is one little boy who refuses to go along with the program. How does the teacher get him to shut up and behave? She solicits his ideas and gets him to help in class. By then end of the school day he's no longer a problem.

It was a very short book and I seem to recall there being a movie made of it as well.

If anyone in LJ land remembers this story and remembers the name, help me out....please

Was it "War Day" by Whitley Strieber?

Shooting in the dark,

Thanks, that was a good guess but not it. This was story was very Cold Warrish. I think it was written somewhere between the late sixties and mid seventies.

This will drive me mad.

BTW: I picked up The Guns of The South. Can't wait to start reading it.
