I'm such a fucking juvenile. I have a documentary on nature in the background while I work. It has lush music and David Lean's sonorous narration.

Then he say the word "hoarfrost" and I snicker. I see a caribou bull chasing a cow, suddenly there are about a half dozen running behind him trying to get to her first. The bull chasing her has to tussles with a couple of the rogue followers. He keeps running behind her as she leads him in a merry chase. She pauses and *BAM* well you know how these sorts of things go.

I've also seen that scene played out in clubs more than one.

9Whne did they start showing animals fucking on TV. Not that I mind, circle of life and all that jazz, but I don't remember ever seeing this on Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom with Marlon Perkins.

BTW: I love penguins; it's amazing to see an bird who walks so awkwardly on land and can't swim become like a greased bullet in water. And penguins fucking? Quick and funny as hell.

Okay, back to work with me. I still have more writing to do than I have time to do it in. Yay.

I should probably eat something too.

I seem to recall coitus

I can't recall if it was Wild Kingdom or National Geographic, but I do recall being bored while watching birds dance and mount and the occasional zebra or wildebeest mounting. I rolled my eyes and waited for the return of the far more interesting lions and hyenas. In my teens I remember seeing them stay on the action long enough to witness the male ostrich equipment being removed. My jaw hit the floor. Perhaps memory has distorted the image, but my impression at the time was that a horse would be made to feel inadequate.

Whenever anyone comes up to a friend and I and interrupts an important conversation we immediately change the topic to penguins. The person looks kind of awkward and walks away or they actually get into the conversation we end up talking about penguins. They're so cute.
