RIP Barbaro
Jan. 30th, 2007 07:39 amIt was a FUCKING HORSE! Get over it.
Yes, I know it was a race horse and I'm sure that the people who loved this animal like a pet are sad and while I understand it's a Kentucky Derby winner, it's still a horse. How the fuck does
this end up as the lead story on the news?
Did James Brown (despite being an abusive drug addict) get this much press? How many people know about the fashion model who recently died from anorexia or the resulting fallout on catwalks across Europe about model's body fat. Seemingly trivial? Maybe, but at least it's the basis for discussion of of women's body image and eating disorders.
But a damn dead horse? And a horse, BTW, that didn't have such a great prognosis to begin with given the nature of the injury
Children are being raped, murdered and disappeared, New Orleans is still a mess, Americans are dying in war zones a world away.
All we can talk about is a fucking horse dying??
I hate the news.

Date: 2007-01-31 02:43 am (UTC)I can even appreciate the idea that people need a break from bad news but for some reason this just struck me as especially egregious.
As an animal lover, I think it's sad but I'm, glad that the techniques learned in the 8 months they kept Barabaro alive will now be used to help other horses. I still don't think it's a lead story for a newscast.
The saddest part is I don't even watch these shows for the news, I mainly want to catch the weather and (if I'm traveling) the traffic reports. ACK!
